How to Give Yourself Natural At Home Facials

Did you know that salon-like facials can be done at home? They can and, in fact, at home facials can help keep any kind of skin looking beautiful, whether you have normal skin, bad teen acne or other skin problems.
An at home facial can help you improve skin tone, reduce wrinkles and fine lines, treat sunspots and lessen the appearance of spider veins or damaged blood vessels.T his combination of beauty and cleansing procedures can sometimes be costly at a salon — $100 or more! But not to worry; if you’re on a tight budget, you can learn to give yourself facials right in the comfort of your own home.
A basic home facial usually includes the four steps of cleansing, exfoliating, removal of blackheads and facial massage. You won’t have access to the equipment and products used in a regular salon or spa, but having beautiful, blemish-free and glowing skin is still attainable. Spending a little extra on high quality products will give you the best results, but soap, natural masks you can make in your own kitchen, and oil- and alcohol-free cleansers will also do just fine. Here are the four basic steps to a relaxing and beautifying at-home facial:
Cleansing is the first step. For people who have sensitive skin, a fragrance-free cleanser should be used to avoid irritations that can result from using scented products.
Exfoliation, the removal of dead skin cells that cling to the skin’s outermost surface, is next. You can use a facial scrub, an exfoliating cream or mask or a glycolic acid peel. These are the three most common products used in salons and spas. There are also many natural substances you probably have around the house that have been proven to be effective for exfoliation, such as the combination of oatmeal and eggs. Here’s a simple recipe for an effective natural cleansing mask that uses simple ingredients:
• 1 egg white
• 1/2 cup cooked instant oatmeal
• 1 tsp. lemon juice (use the juice of a fresh lemon, if possible)
• 1 tsp. olive oil
To create the mask, place the cooked instant oatmeal in a bowl and add the egg white, olive oil and lemon juice. Stir until smooth, apply to your face and neck and very gently massage it so that you get exfoliation without causing any damage. Don’t rub it until it flakes away, just long enough so it will remove the dead skin cells. Leave it on for 15 minutes. If you can, take the opportunity to lie down while you wait, to enhance your at-home spa treatment with a little relaxation. After 15 minutes, rinse the mask off with warm water and pat your skin very gently to dry it.
Extraction of blackheads is next. A blackhead strip, such as BiorĂ©, can be used. Most of the time it doesn’t remove all of the blackheads, but if used routinely it will keep your skin blackhead-free. Be sure not to use it more often than the package directions indicate though. A metal blackhead extractor is commonly employed in spas in conjunction with steam and is more effective, but you probably shouldn’t try using one unless you have experience with it.
Facial massage is the last step in your at home facial. Its main purpose is to improve skin circulation and also relax tension in the facial muscles. Once there is proper circulation, more beautiful, glowing skin will result. To massage your skin, gently massage upward as you open your mouth and extend your jaw. Try to release the tension in your facial muscles as you do the massage.
Having a beautiful skin doesn’t need to be expensive. All it takes is proper daily skin care, a good diet, a healthy lifestyle and a monthly regimen of facial skin care. The skin regenerates every four weeks, so a monthly facial is just what you need to keep your skin healthy and beautiful. And the best thing about it? You can do it right in your own home.

Natural Facial Treatments
You may be surprised to find that many beauty product ingredients can be found at home, for a fraction of the price of store-bought equivalents. So the next time you reach for your wallet to buy an expensive anti aging facial cream or mask, why not check to see what’s in your refrigerator, kitchen pantry or maybe even your garden to give yourself a natural facial treatment instead? It can help you achieve a natural beauty makeover without having to leave the comfort of your own home!
Avocado
An emollient for the skin and hair, avocado is an oil-rich tropical fruit that’s full of vitamins and potassium. Its oil is often used in commercial skin preparations, because it makes an exceptional moisturizer and has many anti-aging properties. To use it as a home facial treatment, simply mash one avocado until smooth, spread it on your face and rinse off first with warm water and then cold to close the pores after 15 or 20 minutes.
Cucumber
Well known for its healing properties, it has a wonderful calming and soothing effect on sensitive or sunburned skin and makes a wonderful mask. You can place sliced or grated chilled cucumber on your face or put the chilled cucumber in a blender and use the puree instead (keeping it away from your eyes). Leave it on for about 30 minutes while you lie down and then rinse it off and follow with a moisturizer.
Bananas
High in potassium, bananas are natural humectants that are often used in homemade facial and body masks for dry skin. Simply apply a mashed banana to your face. Add some plain yogurt and an egg white or a tablespoon of honey to the bananas to make the mask more luxurious.
Eggs
Eggs help to reduce the appearance of pores and fine lines on the surface of the skin because of their skin conditioning and toning properties. They also act as a hair conditioner and thickener, and can be used as a base to bind other ingredients together. To create an egg mask that will minimize your pores and give you healthy skin, beat one egg yolk, apply it to your face and rinse well after 15 minutes. For a more moisturizing mask, mix one egg yolk, one teaspoon of honey and a teaspoon of olive oil, and use the same as the plain egg yolk mask.
Honey
Honey is known for its skin conditioning and antibacterial effects, and is a wonderful healing ingredient for moisturizers, masks, cleansers and lip balms. Active Manuka honey is especially beneficial for healing skin. Use a warm, wet towel to open your pores, and then spread the honey on your face. Leave on for 15-30 minutes, and then rinse with warm water and then cold to close the pores.
Kiwis
Kiwis are high in vitamin C, and soothe and refresh the skin when used in masks and toners. Fresh kiwi juice or pulp can be added to a variety of other ingredients to form masks, but it can also be used by itself as a cleansing mask. It’s fairly astringent, so it may pinch a little. But this is okay, as long as you keep it away from your eyes. Leave the mask on for 15 minutes, wash with warm and then cold water and follow with your normal moisturizer.
Lemons
Lemons are a natural astringent and are often found in toners and exfoliators. They’re excellent for oily and greasy skin, because they remove excess oil and to help lighten pigmentation. To make a mask to address oily skin issues, mix the juice of half a lemon and one beaten egg white and apply it to your face, avoiding the eyes. You can actually leave this mask on overnight if you want, or for just 15 minutes if you want a quick treatment.
Oatmeal
Oatmeal softens and heals the skin and is therefore a great addition to any mask for sensitive skin. It can also be used as a mild exfoliant by mixing it with enough water or milk to make a soft paste and using it to wash your face. If you have oily skin, use the same preparation as a mask, leaving it on until it dries. Once it does, rub it off with your fingers, making sure to do it very gently so you protect your skin.
Pineapple
Pineapple makes a great exfoliant, due to its natural enzymes. Puree or mash the pineapple, apply it to the skin and let it set a few minutes. After you rinse it off, finish with a gentle mask made from one cup yogurt and yogurt and a tablespoon of honey for the ultimate spa treatment.
Watermelon
Watermelon’s astringent and skin conditioning properties can be very helpful for those suffering from oily skin conditions. Mash enough watermelon to cover your face (avoiding the eye area), spread it on and then lie down for 15 minutes. Rinse with warm and then cold water and follow with your favorite moisturizer.
As you can see, there is a bountiful selection of items that can be used for natural facial treatments. So if you want to avoid buying expensive anti aging facial products or just want your skin to look its best, turn to Mother Nature!

Article On Motivation

in Life Coaching,Uncategorized
Generally we blame motivation or a lack of willpower for failing to keep our Resolutions. But this is too simplistic a view. If you want to create an endless source of motivation you have to understand what motivation is and how it works. Everything in life has many, many layers and levels to it. And motivation is no different.

No one has ever lacked motivation. Probably the most common area where people talk about motivation is losing weight and exercising.

Now why is someone overweight? Because they have too much motivation for the foods that m ake them put on weight.

Why don’t people exercise? Because they are more motivated to do anything rather than exercise.

The problem is not motivation. You are always motivated, but you are motivated for the things that you feel will bring the greatest rewards or the least pain.

Your motivation depends to a great extent on your personality. Introverts are more interested in avoiding pain, whereas Extraverts are more concerned with possible rewards. Some people have a longer-term view of life, others care more about now.

So an Introvert with a longer-term perspective is far more likely to choose the fat-free option because he or she wants to avoid the pain of being overweight.

Whereas a more impulsive Extravert will probably go for the chocolate cake because the reward now is far more exciting than the possible pain in the future.

Everything we do is based on an economic mindset. By economic I don’t mean financial, but we do attribute everything with a value. And we continually look to maximize our pleasure and reduce our pain.

So if your Resolutions aren’t working out. Look for what you are valuing more. The pay-off may not be obvious or even now, but on some layer or level there must be a pay-off.

This brings us to another aspect of motivation. Different Resolutions work on different levels and as a result access different sources of motivation. The source of motivation you are using will determine how long you stay motivated for.

What does this mean?

Well, there are five levels of Resolution that I can think of. And each one has a slightly longer life span than the last. I think of them like this:

The five levels are;

The Resolution you make because it’s expected of you.

This type of Resolution has no real emotional pay-off to you. It’s just something you are doing because doing something else may cause you the pain of disapproval or the risk of standing out and appearing abnormal.

Doing what’s expected is easy. It saves anyone nagging you and the effort of thinking for yourself.

But once you are out of that situation its hard to maintain, because it loses it’s reward and you have to suffer the pain of carrying it out.

The Resolution you make because you feel bad at the moment.

This type of Resolution is made as a knee jerk reaction in the moment to get rid of a pain. So it has an emotional pay-off, but as soon as the pain has gone there is no reason to continue.

For example, if you really analyze why people exercise – I used to own a Health Club, so I did – you’ll find that they tend to do it because they’re fed up being overweight or unfit or whatever. But this isn’t a sudden decision. Most have been considering exercising for months or even years. What really gets them to start is a more intense emotional pain.

Either a Doctor scares them into exercising or more often it’s a time when they feel insecure. Perhaps they have just got divorced… or their relationship is hitting a rocky patch and they are thinking of either competing for their Partner or being back on the dating market. Whatever the specifics they feel so bad when they worry that they have to do something to ease the pain. ‘Yes, they say I’m determined to stay on the program this time. I know its not a quick fix’. And they mean it when they say it.

Two or three months later though, the situation that was causing the pain has resolved itself one way or another. So the incentive for exercising has gone. Yet still the grind of going through the boring routine is still there. Sooner or later the pain of exercising outweighs the pain relief it used to bring. And then the Resolution ends.

The Resolution you make because you want something.

Sometimes this level comes from wanting something to get rid of a pain. And sometimes it just a natural ambition to grow. It lasts until you outgrow the desire or something better comes along.

Often people will go through the other levels of Resolution. And with each stage of evolution they find that life in general starts to feel better after overcoming a problem.

Then somewhere something just clicks and they realize that they feel better because each problem caused them to grow, in order to resolve it. The idea pops into their head that if they were to just grow for the sake of it… life might get more and more enjoyable.

Because this resolution is based on a far more permanent feeling it lasts for far longer than the previous motivations, which were just passing wants. However what you want and do to feel good will change as you grow.

One time you may want X, but three months or three years (depending on how quickly you are evolving) later you change your mind about what will make you feel good. Then your Resolution will change possibly before your motivation goes.

The Resolution you make because it’s you.

There are some things that you just feel so strongly about that you absolutely must do them or you would never do them. This is because they just aren’t you. So the motivation for this type of resolution will last for as long as your identity remains constant.

You can have different Resolutions in different areas of your life at different levels. Each level of resolution represents the overcoming of a problem or an urge to grow.

Overcoming these problems or achieving these desires causes us to grow and evolve. Once we grow there is no going back. Try not being able to ride a bike or do up your shoelaces. So problems and desires are the carrot and the stick forcing us to evolve.

Eventually we can reach a stage where we realize that… all along it was us that created the problems. And if we just accept ourselves as we are… we can enjoy all of life – and life will enjoy us.

Optimists, Realists, and Pessimists By Jim Stovall

I’m a firm believer that, in life, we always find what we’re looking for.
Recently, I heard a story told by my friend and colleague, Dr. Wayne Dyer. He was walking on the beach near one of his vacation homes when he was confronted by a couple walking along the beach in the opposite direction. As Dr. Dyer passed the couple, the lady asked him if he lived in the area.
He confirmed that his home was in the vicinity. Her husband explained that they had just bought a home and were moving from New York and would be living near him on the beach. The wife asked Dr. Dyer if the neighbors were nice and pleasant.
Dr. Dyer asked the couple if their neighbors were nice and pleasant back in New York. The couple both shook their heads and took turns explaining how rude and inconsiderate people were in New York.
Dr. Dyer smiled and assured them that people that lived on the beach in his area were about the same.
As Dr. Dyer finished his walk that day, he met an elderly woman on the beach near the steps to his house.
Ironically, she told him that she had recently retired and was moving to the area from the upper Midwest. She asked him if the neighborhood was safe and the people were nice.
Dr. Dyer asked how things were back in the Midwest where she came from. She smiled enthusiastically and told him people were nice, friendly, and looked out for one another.
Dr. Dyer smiled warmly and assured her she would find all the neighbors to be just as friendly here as they had been in the Midwest.
There are always good reasons to be optimistic, realistic, and pessimistic. You can choose how you want to see things.
If you watch the experts on the financial channels, you will see many of them making gloom and doom predictions of dire conditions ahead.
If you go back and review these same experts’ predictions 10 or 20 years ago, you will find that they were pessimistic at that time for a whole other set of reasons.
If you had listened to them then, you would have missed many productive and fruitful years of investing in the marketplace.
No matter how smart or experienced someone may be, no one knows enough to be a pessimist. While there are certainly factors that should generate caution, there are similar factors—known and unknown—that should generate optimism.
As you go through your day today, look for the best in people and circumstances. You will not be disappointed.
Today’s the day!
